I took this picture in May 2007 at the Nature Museum in Ottawa. It was a pretty lucky shot and I like how it turned out.

Since then, this image has been published in a women’s magazine in Singapore, shown as part of a group exhibition in Hong Kong and Vancouver, and most recently, in a street photography blog post.

As much as I like the image, it’s made me painfully aware of the need to make new pictures, and simultaneously, reminds me of the fact that it’s tough to do so while still living here in Hamilton. One could argue that I could photograph readily-available subjects, such as my kid, but I don’t have the same passion for that as I do for street photography. For that matter, lately I haven’t felt like photographing her very much, possibly due to a combination of mundane days and temperamental personalities.

Anyway. Pre-Raspberry, I used to submit my photographs to the now-defunct Kiss Machine (they were the first and only publication to pay me for my submission!) and F-Stop Magazine. It feels like eons ago when I was last rushing to fix my images in Photoshop for submissions. Oh, who am I kidding? Three-and-a-half years is eons ago. I’m slowly starting to get back into getting my name out there, especially with Google+. I think it kinda forces me to make new things too. Lately, I’ve been thinking about whether I ought to use Facebook as a means to promote what I do (or should I say, what I did and what I hope to do? Ha), or leave it for strictly personal purposes. I already use it to connect with a whole bunch of art and photography pages. Hmm.

I shot two rolls of film in Toronto last Saturday. Lucas dropped them off for processing but forgot to pick them up so I’ll have to wait till Wednesday to see the results. I’m not sure if I’m hopeful.
