While at the park yesterday, I heard someone refer to their toddler son as “little man.” While I cringed, I wondered why no one calls their baby girls “little woman” (beyond the fact that you probably need to be able to say that with a straight face). This is going on my list of nicknames I will never call my son (should I ever have one). It’s a very sparse list at the moment. The other nickname I really dislike is “bud” or “buddy.” I swear, it doesn’t matter what their legal names are, but all boys at the playground are Buddy or Bud. I’m surprised when one parent calls “buddy, let’s go now,” all the boys don’t look up.

  1. Heh, good point. And I used ‘little buddy’ for Simon on my recent post. Annoying, isn’t it? Lol I like saying “my boy” instead.

  2. I think reading it is different from actually hearing it in person. Or hearing it multiple times a day, as said by many different people :)
